Make One Simple Change This International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day! It’s the day we celebrate the history of women and their many achievements (it’s also my birthday).

Now, I could do a bit of research and tell you exactly what it means to celebrate International Women’s Day, but it will mean something different to each and every one of us.

Even you fellas should celebrate the incredible things us ladies do: your wonderful mum, your inspirational sister or your forever-doting girlfriend.

Now don’t get me wrong, we are amazing, and the blood, sweat and tears that we’ve sacrificed to achieve what we’ve achieved through the years is something we should all be proud of…however, I want to talk about something us women need to do more of.

Celebrate each other.

International Women's Day

I’ll be very honest, I’ve always been a bit of a ‘lad’, so the majority of my friends were always male when growing up and the girls I happened to be friends with were luckily on a similar wavelength – but there lies the problem.

We can be too judgemental.

Something I’ve come to realise since working at UP is just how important it is for us to support each other, tell each other how amazing we look, tell each other how incredibly proud we are and every now and then we should tell each other ‘you can do this!’

We don’t do it enough. We’ll happily sit on the sidelines and say ‘doesn’t she look amazing’ but say absolutely nothing – instead what it looks like is more ‘bitching’; so say it!

During my 12-week transformation, I honestly thought no one would care what I had to say, but the support was incredible. The motivation I had from other women telling me I was inspiring them was something I just couldn’t put a price on.

I have built relationships with other women at UP purely because we’ve trained hard together, we’ve pushed each other to keep going that extra mile, we’ve hugged each other just to show how proud we are and we’ve told each other ‘you look amazing!’

At UP, your success is what drives us.

The personal trainers, male or female, want nothing more than for you to succeed and this rubs off on anyone who walks in.

Female Training

We don’t care who you are, we don’t care how much weight training you’ve done in the past and we certainly don’t care whether you’re male or female.

We don’t walk past each other in the gym and purposely avoid eye contact, we don’t look anyone up and down, and in no way do we think we’re better than you.

Sadly, this isn’t always the case everywhere you go.

The banner message of this year’s International Women’s Day is #BeBoldForChange which aims to get people to step up and take ground-breaking action to help drive gender equality.

This starts with raising each other up towards our goals.

So smile at each other more, compliment each other, and offer a helping hand, because together, we can do incredible things – and that’s not me being cheesy, that’s showing that we should bring the best out of each other and be a little less selfish.

Make a change to someone else’s day and not just today; every day.
