Steve came to UP already in good condition, although with his 50th birthday fast approaching, wanted to be in the best shape of his life.

Steve has never been below 10% body fat and it’s been a distant goal of his for many years – although since coming on board with UP he did more than just smash that goal.

Did you have any doubts or reservations about personal training before you started with us?

“I suppose you do have doubts going to somewhere new and wonder if you are going to get something that is worth it.  Life is busy and you want to know that you are getting value not only for your money but also for your time. It didn’t take long at all for me to see that Mark was the real deal.

“In our first session, he taught me a number of things – some major, but also lots of little tweaks or adjustments to technique that actually make a big difference.”

I have trained by myself for quite a while and there is no doubt at all that I have achieved much more with Mark than I would have otherwise.

We know that our gyms can be quite intense environments. Did you feel comfortable and supported by your trainer and the overall team, including the management team?

“Absolutely I felt totally comfortable at UP and never felt intimidated or out of place.”

How would you describe the actual training experience, from the gym training to the nutritional coaching?

“I found working with Mark to be the most personalised of all the personal training that I have ever done.

“Mark has fantastic knowledge and has trained directly with some of the world’s leading experts but he also has a great ability to translate that expertise and knowledge to your situation.

“I am never going to be a massive guy and Mark has designed a program for me (with training and nutrition working together) that makes sense for me and builds on my strengths and minimises my limitations.”

What have your results been like since you started with us?

“My goal in working with Mark was to get in the best shape that I have ever been in. It’s great to say that I think that I have achieved that and I still feel like I have more potential and further progress to make through continuing to work with Mark.

The best thing about this is that there are no gimmicks it has all been very sound, proven techniques.

“Mark has helped me to understand what I am doing and why and that helps me keep to a plan.”

Do you feel different about yourself in any way since you started personal training with us?

“Without being conceited about it, I am actually proud of what I have been able to achieve.  I feel good about myself.


“It has been hard work but I knew that if I followed Mark’s guidance, I would get there.

“I have made great physical progress and this has made me feel more comfortable and confident as well.

What would you say to your friends if they asked you about us?

“If you want results then I would definitely recommend you work with Mark and UP.

“There is no magic or trickery, there is solid technique and good science.  I am pretty self-motivated but I have never trained harder than when I train with Mark.  He pushes me.  I feel like I get such a lot of those sessions.”
